Willow Class

We enjoyed our learning focus so much last term we have decided to carry on with it but with a twist!

Is it always happily ever after?

Once upon a time The 3 Billy Goats Gruff and the Troll, The Gingerbread Man, Cinderella, Red Riding Hood and the Wolf and a Superhero Potato came to visit Willow Class!

Instead of reading familiar versions of fairy stories and traditional stories we are going to explore alternative versions where the “good” and “bad” characters act a little bit differently than you might expect. We are going to be using lots of descriptive language to describe our characters and plot lines. We are going to continue to practice using capital letters at the start of our sentences as well as when we are using people’s names and write sentences which have exclamation marks and question marks at the end of them. We will be making use of our excellent growing word writing and phonic knowledge to help us as we write lots of instructions, letters and stories.

In Maths we will be learning how to add, subtract and multiple numbers up to 100, including doing this by counting in 2s, 5s and 10s!   Linked to our Fairy Tale theme we will be exploring how to measure weight and time and learning about money – watch out for the children telling you how much money they need to spend to help them learn about addition and subtraction!

As part of our Science focus we will be continuing to look after our flowers, fruit and vegetables that we planted last term.  We have created a min allotment at the side of our classroom – please come and have a look. In Design Technology we are going to be getting creative in our cooking and use recipes inspired by our Fairy Tales.  In Geography we are learning about places in the United Kingdom and further afield thanks to our friend the Gingerbread Man. A big thank you to everyone who has already helped with postcards! Please keep sending them in.

In PE will be focusing on games, including golf.  Please can you make sure that your child has their PE kit, including plasters for anyone with earrings and that all long hair is tied back, with them every week. Our PE sessions take place on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings.

Thank you to all our parents who continue to support their children’s learning at home through listening to them read and completing homework challenges together.  Please remember to write in your child’s reading log and homework book so that we know what they have enjoyed and what they need to keep practising.

Thank you to everyone who shares photos and messages on Dojo about what you have been doing at home. The children really enjoy sharing this with their friends.
