Welcome to Summer in Beech Class!
Welcome back! We will be continuing with our Fairytale theme from last half term:
Is it always ‘happily ever after’?
Last half term we focused on learning about what a fairytale was. In literacy, over the six weeks, we looked at a range of classic fairytales and considered the similarities and differences between the stories. We developed our descriptive writing skills through character and setting descriptions. We then used the ‘Talk 4 Writing’ process to learn a version of Jack and the Beanstalk that we then adapted and made into our own story. This half term, we will be focusing on our letter-writing skills and instructional writing.
In Maths this half term, we will be revisiting many of the key areas in preparation for the Year 2 SATs. Although the tests will be taking place during the week of 14th-18th May, please be assured that these are not as formal as the Year 6 SATs. Unlike the Year 6 tests, ours are marked by the classroom teacher (I look forward to this week!) and are used purely as a guidance for our teacher assessments. The majority of our judgement is based on the classwork and child’s understanding that we see on a daily basis. Please do not worry about the tests and feel free to come and see me if you have any questions.
This term, we have been incredibly lucky in PE to be coached by Mr Scott. He always makes lessons really fun and includes an element of healthy competition to keep us on our toes. Our focus for this half term is golf and athletics. Let’s hope we get some good weather for a bit of outdoor sports.
We are hoping for some sunny afternoons so that we can get outside with our sketchbooks and pastels. We hope to be using a range of different drawing media to capture some signs of Spring and Summer.
If you have any questions about our planned learning, you can either take a look at our Curriculum Map on the website, or feel free to grab one of us at the end of the day.
